Cambridge Heath Co-Working

Our proposals formed our response to an invited competition entry to rethink a tired early twentieth century warehouse building in East London.

The proposal takes its cues from found moments of quality: the well-proportioned brick facade to the street, the generosity of fenestration and the potential to link the rear courtyard to Bethnal Green Gardens. The courtyard acts as an animate space with a relationship to the museum gardens via a tunnel through the railway. We worked on a principal of thorough analysis of the existing fabric before deciding whether to repair, remove or replace each object and surface. A combination of stripping back layers of unnecessary lining and dilapidated finishes and judicious insertions enable us to reimagine the building as a spacious, light-filled office.
